Hallelujah! Digital TV and internet service starts April 9
On April 2 (not an April Fool's joke), Darice Wareham, chair of the Carlisle Cable Communications Advisory Committee received the following message from Robert Travers, Comcast's manager of government relations:
"I'm pleased to inform you that the date for the cutover to the new [digital] system is scheduled for April 9. On that date, customers will be able to start ordering Digital TV and HSD [high speed digital internet service], as well as advanced analog services. We will be contacting all of our customers to schedule an appointment to change out their existing boxes for an advanced analog box, for which there will be no additional charge. At the same time, we will offer to demonstrate the new digital services to customers, who will have the option of subscribing to digital services at an additional charge. It should also be noted that customers who subscribe to Basic or Standard cable with no premiums, and who have a cable ready set, no longer require a converter box. The response to our new services, particularly Digital TV and HSD, has been very strong in the former Cablevision communities that we have recently upgraded. We anticipate that the response will be strong in your community as well."
