Getting to know. Madonna McKenzie
Carlisle Town Administrator
Where were you born and raised?
I was born in Clinton, Iowa and raised on a farm in the small community of Delmar, Iowa.
Where do you live now?
My husband and I have lived in Westford for the past 30 years. We have three grown children.
How long have you served as Town Administrator?
After serving as Interim Town Administrator in April of 2000 for six months, I entered into a three-year contract with the Town in October, 2000.
What other jobs do you hold or have you held?
The position of Town Administrator requires some evening time so I have given up most of my previous commitments. I do still serve on the Board of Directors for Community Teamwork Inc. in Lowell. Prior to accepting the position here, I served as Interim Town Manager in Westford for nine months.
What do you enjoy most about this position?
I enjoy most the fact that it is never boring. Every day brings new challenges and no two days are alike.
What are the greatest challenges?
At the moment, it's the ever-changing money picture[including] the budget preparation for Fiscal Year 2004 and the cuts anticipated in state aid for the current year.
Have you ever considered a political career?
I've already dabbled in this area. In Westford, I served six years on the School Committee and six years on the Board of Selectmen.
What are your hopes and goals for Carlisle in the future?
That it continues to maintain its rural characteralso, to identify new revenue sources, continue to build and retain professional staff, to find the most efficient means for delivering services, and to improve communication on all levels.
