Wilsons withdraw land from Chapter 61 protection
The assessors' office, board of selectmen, planning board and conservation commission have all been officially informed that Grant and Helene Wilson of 201 Concord Street are withdrawing approximately 135 acres from classification as forestland. This means that their extensive holdings off Westford Street, roughly across from the beginning of Acton Street , will no longer be eligible for the tax reductions allowed under Chapter 61, Section 8 of the Massachusetts statutes, and all back taxes for the years covered under that certification will have to be paid.
Although the letter announcing the Wilsons' decision states in part, "There is no pending sale or other planned use of any of these properties," such withdrawals almost always portend transactions of this nature. When and if sale of the land is imminent, the town has the right of first refusal for purchase of said property, but must act within 120 days after receipt of notice to that effect. Attempts to reach the Wilson family for more information have been unsuccessful to date.
