Anti-violence group holds kick-off event

On Tuesday, September 24 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street in Concord, the Concord Carlisle Domestic Violence Roundtable will present a program entitled "Stalking: Protecting the Victim."

The presenter is Lyn Bates, vice-president of AWARE (Arming Women Against Rape and Endangerment). AWARE is a non-profit group that provides information and training to enable people to avoid, deter, repel, or resist crimes ranging from minor harassment to violent assault. Bates is the author of Safety for Stalking Victims: How to Save Your Privacy, Your Sanity, And Your Life (University Press, 2001).

Author program to be presented in Concord

The Children's Room of the Concord Free Public Library, 129 Main Street, Concord presents children's book author and illustrator Bob Graham for a program featuring his new book "Let's Get a Pup," said Kate. The Australian author was recently awarded the 2002 Boston Globe Hornbook Award for this delightful tale of adopting a pup from an animal shelter. Join the library staff on Thursday, October 3 at 7 p.m. for a night of crafts, activities, and puppy and human treats to celebrate this charming tale of puppy love. Want to learn Hebrew?

Congregation Kerem Shalom in Concord is sponsoring two Hebrew learning programs this fall and both are open to members and non-members. For adults, the very popular and successful Hebrew Marathon program will be offered. In just 4 evenings, participants are reading Hebrew. With an experienced instructor, trained in this special program, adults are able to jump start their learning. The program will be offered on September 24, October 1, 15 and 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost of this class is $60, $80 for non-members and includes the textbook. There are still a few openings in this class.

Focusing on Modern Hebrew, our family enrichment Hebrew Program will meet on ten Tuesday evenings. The family team should be a student (4th grade or up) and at least one parent. In addition to classroom learning, students will have access to the Hebrew in 5 Minutes web site to practice at home. The fee for this class is $120 per family team, $150 for non-members.
