Shorts from the selectmen,

May 21

· Carriage Way. The selectmen voted to use Eminent Domain, under Massachusetts General Law 79 as amended, to confirm the town's title to land off Carriage Way. No damages were awarded to the land's last private owner, since the town acquired the lot because of unpaid taxes. Once cleared, this land will be combined with adjacent land to create a "buildable" lot with frontage on Carriage Way. The resultant lot will then be sold, and the money added to the town's stabilization fund.

· Telephone pole 'pollution.' The selectmen approved the replacement of pole 13 near the Congregational Church, as well as the installation of a new pole, 13S, to be located across the street from the church. The new pole is to provide support for the new, taller, pole 13. Kelli Condon of Verizon discussed the pole locations with the board. "Pole pollution" was mentioned, but Condon said that safety requirements prevented Verizon from attaching the support wiring to a nearby tree instead of a support pole. The board's approval was conditional on approval from the Carlisle Department of Public Works for the pole location, and height of the new support wire over the street.
