Starting with Patriots Day, followed by an early morning bird walk to Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge in May, I'm into my traditional springtime entertainment modebreakfast or brunch. In the case of Patriots Day, it's breakfast at 6:45 a.m. at our home on Estabrook Road for friends who want to join the Patriots Day Parade that passes by our house an hour later. ...more

This year's boys basketball season was one of excitement and predominantly growth. The team was made up of sixth and seventh graders, with little varsity experience. ...more

The Carlisle Girls Basketball team had another great season this year! The girls worked at improving their skills and their ability to play together as a team. The season started off with some difficult non-league games, which demonstrated to the team what they needed to work on. The girls went on to improve their shooting, work together on offense, and sharpen up their defense. They were quite successful, ending the season with a record of six wins and two losses in league play. Both losses were to the team's toughest competitor, Notre Dame Academy. The Carlisle girls surprised Notre Dame in their second game with their fierce defense and outstanding press, leading the game 16­14 at the half. Notre Dame came back with a strong second half and, despite continued efforts by the Carlisle girls, Carlisle ended up losing 32­28. On March 12 a group of excited travelers, including 15 residents of Carlisle, departed by bus from the parking lot next to Daisy's, and headed to Logan airport for their seven-hour flight to Milan, Italy. The Carlisle Council on Aging organized the trip, which was led by Carlisle resident Joanne Willens. The thirty adventurers, ages 30 to 90, stayed at the Hotel Don Pedro in Malcesine, on Lake Garda. For nine days they toured the beautiful Lakes Region, making visits to the Italian cities of Venice, Milan, Verona, Padua, the Italian Riviera, Nice, France and Innsbruck, Austria. Since the celebration of Patriots Day occurred on Monday, it seems appropriate today, on Patriots Day, to celebrate British Soldiers, which resemble British Soldiers about as much as Monday resembles Friday. ...more
