Tax relief proposal put on hold
To the Editor:
The selectmen suggested that the "circuit breaker" article pegging property tax at 7 percent whenever the annual property tax exceeds 7 percent of income not be moved at Town Meeting. Lincoln, whose article we had borrowed, is taking it off their warrant. There are concerns that need to be addressed with that particular article.
It was suggested that a committee be formed to study the issue of how to go about bringing tax relief to lower income residents. With a concerned, mathematically and legally inclined citizenry studying it, such an article could be on Fall Town Meeting's warrant.
There was enthusiastic response by young and old to the idea of a way to foster income tax relief.
