Winning season for seventh grade girls basketball

Concord-Carlisle's 7th grade Travel Basketball girls posted a 19-2 North Shore Conference record in 2001-02. In its second season, the girls have blistered league opponents while amassing an incredible 38-3 record. Following last year's conference championship, the girls won again this year with team offense and defense. Opponents were left flat-footed by CC's balanced scoring, while tough defense led to steals, offensive boards and fast break lay-ups. Eight
The successful girls travel basketball team included (back row) CCHS student assistant Jocelyn Higgins, Michele Bilodeau, Hanah Richardson, Sydney LeVan, Nikki Recco, Lisa Debruzzi, Sarah Robinson and (front row) Rebecca Jenkinson, Kim Miner, Lacey Herchek, Emily Mandler, Heather Cabot and Stephanie Jackson.
returning veterans were joined this season by newcomers Michele Bilodeau, Hanna Richardson, Sarah Robinson, Lacey Herchek and Heather Cabot. These new players meshed well with the continued dominating inside defensive/offensive play of last year's MVP, Sydney LeVan. Michele Bilodeau and Hanna Richardson provided important and significant reserve minutes at center. Consistent rebounding, clutch jump shots and inside scoring was provided by power forward Nikki Recco. Forwards Rebecca Jenkinson and Emily Mandler excelled in taking their defenders off the dribble and to the hoop while forward Sarah Robinson's speed and agility on defense stifled key opponents. Veteran guards Lisa Debruzzi and Kim Miner combined for many take-aways resulting in fast break lay-ups for CC. The outside shooting, picks and passing of Stephanie Jackson and ball handling/shooting/passing of Lacey Herchek and Heather Cabot made this team a winner this season.

Coached by Christine Debruzzi and assistant Kathy Miner, CC benefited from and was grateful for the mentoring and development provided by CCHS student assistants, senior Kerry Flaherty and junior Jocelyn Higgins. CC looks forward to next season!
