Blue meets Gray in girls basketball
On a sunny Saturday morning, February 16, the Carlisle Gray team met the Carlisle Blue team for a recreation basketball game. This was the first time the two teams of fourth and fifth graders played each other. Each team played five games against Lincoln and Hanscom before meeting to match skills and have fun. Blue team's Alison Koning scored the first basket. An impressive rebound by the Gray team's Katie Hendrickson made Gray's first basket.
Blue team's Brittany Geoffroy had several breakaways to bring Blue ahead. Gray team's Sarah Ganek played great defense while Blue team's Samantha Hankey played aggressively making two foul shots. Blue team's Sarah Mathew made an outstanding basket to bring the Blue ahead.
Gray team's Caroline Materne's basket tied the game at the end of the first period. In the second period the Blue team pulled ahead with the impressive play of duo Geoffroy and Koning. In the third period, Blue continued their lead with a basket from Audrey Cooney and aggressive play by Katie Hart and Mairead Murphy. The Gray team fought to obtain control of the ball with excellent rebounding by Haley George and superior defensive plays by Casey Tarca. Gray team's Jennie Williams made several of her signature breakaway runs.
In the end the Blue team won. Lead scorer for the game was Geoffroy. Next time they meet it will be the final game of the season. Missing from the game were Olivia Arnow, Christina Cornish, Kelsey Erickson, and Caroline Howe.
