Police officers Richard Tornquist and Mike Taplin made a requested well-being check on a Carlisle couple last Saturday morning and found them both dead in a car parked in the carport at their home at 43 Fern Lane. What has been a tangled history has just become more complicated with the filing of a second lawsuit by the landowners Michael Vale (formerly Michael Valchuis) and David Valchuis against the planning board and four Berry Corner Lane homeowners. The latest suit seeks to overturn the board's January denial of a one-house lot plan and to determine whether the owners of Berry Corner Lane have violated the existing easement agreement. ...more

· Leave of absence. At their February 5 meeting, the Carlisle School Committee granted pre-school teacher Jennifer Fenton-Jones a second year leave of absence. Her letter asks for one more year at home with her preschool children before she returns to teaching. Her position is currently filled. ...more

At a meeting of the Republican Town Committee on January 30, chairman Charles Parker appointed four townspeople to represent Carlisle at the Republican state convention to be held in Lowell at the Tsongas Memorial Stadium on Saturday, April 6. The four are Sue Bohn, Sal Borrello, Doug Stevenson, and Adam Waitkunas. Borrello was formerly chairman of the Republican Committee and Stevenson is one of the town's selectmen. · Tub with non-stick surface. Alys Scott of 91 Westford Street appeared at the February 5 meeting of the board of health to request a waiver of a plumbing code violation. Scott explained that she had remodeled a bathroom and installed a new cast-iron tub. Plumbing inspector Joe Green said he would not approve the tub because it had no non-stick surface applied as required by the state law. Scott explained that she would not have bought the tub if it had to have a non-stick surface. The tub is used by itself as a tub in the bathroom which has a separate shower. Scott stated that the supplier Expo Center claimed they had sold 1,200 tubs and were not aware of any problem. ...more


Ron Sadan, a Carlisle eighth-grade student, has won the Silver Key Award for drawing, which is one of the second- place awards in the Boston Globe Scholastic Art Competition. Sadan competed against seventh-, eighth- and ninth-grade students across Massachusetts. On Saturday, February 9, Ron was presented with the award at a ceremony held at the Boston Transportation Building. ...more
