Music students are accepted to Northeast District Junior Festival
The Carlisle Schools' music department is pleased to announce that thirteen instrumentalists and a vocalist have been accepted into this year's Massachusetts Northeast District Junior Festival. These orchestra, chorus, and band honors ensembles are comprised of selected students in grades 7-9 from over ninety middle schools and junior high schools throughout northeastern Massachusetts. Carlisle musicians went through a rigorous audition at North Reading High School on January 19. Those accepted will rehearse during the week of March 4, and perform a concert in Lowell on Saturday, March 9.
Accepted into the orchestra were Hannah Roberts (her second year as an orchestra member) on French horn and Kate Erickson on trombone. It is a high honor to be asked to perform with the festival orchestra; these positions are traditionally reserved for ninth graders because of the extensive musical and technical demands of the music. Band members will include flutists Jill McElligott and Alexandra Byer, clarinetists Nate Johnson and Walter Woodward, bassoonist Kathleen Walsh, saxophonist Emily Yu, French hornists Zack Rubenstein and Devon Jeffers, trombonists Lauren Lamere and Diane Lee, and tubist Nick Lunig. Seventh grader Oliver Bojanic was selected to perform with the festival chorus.
Other students who conscientiously prepared their audition material but were not chosen for this year's festival included Marie Benkley, Laura Ferraro, Catherine O'Kelly, Erica Rogoff, Cassidy Lane, and Jacob Faucher.
Congratulations to all auditioning students!
