ENGAGEMENT
Carrie Kudirka to wed Justin Delaney

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kudirka of Bellows Hill Road announce the engagement of their daughter Carrie Anne to Justin William Delaney. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Delaney of Lowell Road. An August 2002 wedding is planned.

Miss Kudirka is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and Lesley University. She is a second-grade teacher in the Groton Public School system. Her fiancé is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He is employed at Delta Electronics in Beverly, Massachusetts. They are both 1993 graduates of Concord-Carlisle Regional High School.

OBITUARIES

Susan Theys

Susan Theys, 94, a former longtime resident of Charleroi, Pennsylvania, and more recently of Philadelphia and Carlisle, died at Emerson Hospital on Tuesday, January 15, following a long illness. Born in Mount Pleasant Pennsylvania, August 8, 1907, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Michalcik) Popovec.

She was the wife of the late Peter T. Dunkers and the late Alexander Theys.

Mrs. Theys leaves her sons Thomas Dunkers of East Street and Donald Dunkers of Pittsburgh and her daughters Susan Carr of Philadelphia, Diane Kliner of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania and Denise Bentz of Charleroi. She is also survived by her brother Steve Popovec of Baltimore and by seven grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Irene Church, by Rev. Thomas P. Donohoe, Pastor, on Monday, January 21. Interment will be in Pennsylvania at a later date. For those who wish, gifts in her memory may be sent to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114. Arrangements were under the direction of the MacRae-Tunnicliffe Funeral Home, Concord.

Serpoohi "Christine" Jafferian

Serpoohi "Christine" Jafferian, 87, formerly of Belmont and more recently of St. Augustine, Florida and Carlisle, died January 20.

Mrs. Jafferian, an author and singer, was born in Smyrna, Turkey, and emigrated to the U.S. in 1931. In 1993, her autobiography, Winds of Destiny, was read by the COA book club and Mrs. Jafferian was on hand for its discussion.

Mrs. Jafferian is survived by one son and two daughters, including Dr. Doris Jafferian of Craigie Circle.

Services were held at the St. James Armenian Church in Watertown on Thursday, January 24.

Carlisle Cub Scouts go loony

The fifth grade Webelos of Pack 135 were guests of the Guild family January 11 13 and enjoyed a weekend of winter fun at Loon Mountain. Activities included skiing, swimming, snowball fights, and a birthday party for Graham on Saturday night. Although everyone was tired on Sunday, all agreed that it was a terrific trip. Scouts attending the trip were Erik Bjornson, Joey Davin, Jake Dockterman, Andrew Guild, Max Herman, Matthew Koski, Sam Petrie, and Graham Reed. The scouts were accompanied by Tom Bjornson, Bill Guild, Judy Guild, Caroline Guild, Phil Herman, Chad Koski, John Petrie, and Tricia Reed.
