Town Meeting to consider school expansion, fate of Town Forest
A Special Town Meeting called for next Tuesday, November 27 will ask the town to initiate two expensive and controversial new projects. Two of the eight Warrant articles ask for funds to determine the feasibility and identify sites for new building programs.
Article 6 asks for $15-20,000 to investigate three potential building sites for school expansion, including the Banta-Davis Land, Spalding Field and the sloping hillside adjacent to the current school.
Article 7 requests funds for an engineering study to prepare a plan for multi-use of the Town Forest on East Street, including an affordable housing development, recreation areas and other municipal uses.
It is possible that the selectmen may yet withdraw Article 7 since, as of Tuesday, the exact location of the 46-acre Town Forest on the 68 to 72-acre town-owned tract was "sketchy," according to town administrator Madonna McKenzie.
