Girls soccer team competes in their first season of play
The Carlisle Girls Soccer Team started their first year of play this season. Seventeen girls made the team and played a 12-game schedule against several local teams, which included Concord, Acton, Westford, Lincoln, Bedford and Lexington (Clark and Diamond). The team was led by co-captains Jill McElligott and Lisa DeBruzzi. They showed great leadership and all the girls played well against very tough competition.
The team continued to improve throughout the season. Aubrey Doyle scored our first goal of the season with Jill McElligott and Teresa Huang rounding out the scoring for the team.
Our defense was led by Margot Smith, who intimidated the other teams. Margot and Katie Stack were the key defenders for our two keepers, Allie Bryan and Lisa DeBruzzi. Rounding out the defense was Teresa Huang, who also played mid-field and keeper, and Erika Koehlart, Alison Mayer and Jennifer Philippou.
The strength and endurance of the middle of the field came from Lisa DeBruzzi, Marie Benkley, Kim Rochette, Kathleen Walsh and Lauren Lamere.
Jill McElligott, Aubrey Doyle, Catherine Bennett, Kate Boerma, Nicola Carey and Allie Bryan led our forward line with great speed and skill.
The team finished the season with a record of 0111, but we will have many returning players next year, which will contribute to the strength and maturity of the team. We will miss the following eighth graders who will be graduating: Jill McElligott, Margot Smith, Teresa Huang, Marie Benkley, Kim Rochette and Allie Bryan.
