Fargo announces recreational trails program grant for local group
Senator Susan Fargo announced the awarding of a $22,138 grant for the New England Mountain Bike Association's (NEMBA) Trail Care & Assistance project. The Massachusetts Recreational Trails Program grant will be used for bike patrol at Great Brook Farm State Park, the Lynn Woods, and the Middlesex Fells Reservation. "I congratulate NEMBA on its dedication to local bike trails," commented the senator, "and for its success in developing safe trails."
The grant will fund the training of trail crew leaders and the subsequent execution of numerous trail projects throughout Massachusetts. NEMBA will use grant monies to build new trails, install boardwalks, and improve trail treadways. NEMBA bike patrol members will be trained to assist and educate trail users.
The Department of Environmental Management, a division of the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, awarded 15 organizations with the Massachusetts' 2001-2002 Recreational Trails Program. A total of $488,157 in grant awards was given out in Massachusetts under the federally funded program.
