4-H Horse Club accepting applicants

Carlisle's 4-H Power Posse is currently accepting applicants for the upcoming year. We are a Carlisle-based 4-H Club that teaches horse care and management. We are not a mounted club. Members should possess an interest in horses, but are not required to own one. Most members are actively riding in a lesson program.

Our members are comprised of 14 fifth- and sixth-grade girls. As part of the 4-H philosophy, these girls are looking to be big sisters to second or third graders.

We will meet one Wednesday each month from 3:15 to 5 p.m. Hands-on horse care will be part of each meeting. For more information, call Patty Geoffroy at 1-978-371-1986. Space is limited.

Contra dance and potluck supper on November 9

The Second Friday Contra Dance in Union Hall at the First Religious Society will be on Friday, November 9. Before the dance everyone is invited to a potluck supper that will begin at 6:30 p.m. The dance starts at 8 p.m. Rick Mohr will do the calling and Debby Knight, Walter Lenk and Carol Brittensen will provide the music. A $5-a-person collection will be taken at intermission. Beginners and singles are welcome.

Author to speak on Saturday

Mary Roberts, writer, Feng Shui specialist, piano teacher and North Road resident, interviewed 100 women world-wide, asking them the question, "What do you want for yourself?" Their answers led to Roberts' short story, "Asking. For My Life," which appears in the recently-published book The Circle Continues.

Roberts will read her story in the Hollis Room of the Gleason Library on Saturday, November 3, at 2 p.m. She will sign books afterwards.

Moms' night out

The Carlisle Parents Connection is planning a series of Moms' Nights Out throughout the year. This gives moms a chance to sit back, relax, meet other moms in town and catch up with old friends. Our next Moms' Night Out will be on Thursday, November 8. Join us at 7:30 p.m. at the Great Wall Restaurant in Bedford. Please RSVP to Polly Meyer by Wednesday, November 7. If you would like to carpool or follow another car to the restaurant, meet us in the parking lot of the Gleason Library by 7:15 p.m. Mark your calendar for the next Moms' Night Out: Thursday, January 10, 7:30 p.m. at Paparazzi in Concord.

Call Polly Meyer (1-978-318-9690) if you have any questions or restaurant recommendations.

Dads' playgroup to meet November 3

The first monthly Parents Connection dads' playgroup, for fathers of kids 5 and under, will be held at Diment Park on Saturday, November 3, from 3 to 5 p.m. All Carlisle dads are welcome. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call Steve McElroy at 1-978-369-7602 or Ray Jimenez at 1-978-369-4703.

FNL tonight

Friday Night Live, the sequel, will be Friday, November 2, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Super DJs Mike & Mike will once again spin platters electronically (play music) in the exercise room. Listen, sing along, dance, head for the gym for basketball or ping pong, or play chess or checkers in the spacious hallway. We will also be having an exciting basketball free-throw contest, with winners receiving gift certificates to Daisy's Market.

Carlisle students (public or private) in sixth to eighth grades who did not attend the first FNL are more than welcome to attend in November, but must bring a parent or guardian to fill out the required permission form. Students cannot be admitted without the completed form.

A $3 contribution at the door allows the program to be self-supporting. Pizza and soda are sold for a small fee. Students leaving before 9:30 p.m. must be signed out by a parent. All others should be picked up at 9:30 sharp. Call Kathy Hassey at 1-978-287-4284 with any questions.
