Edna M. Rober A dedicated volunteer throughout her life

Edna M. Rober, 70, of Rutland Street and Sun City, Arizona died on Monday, July 9 after a lengthy illness. She was born on April 2, 1931 in Boston. She is survived by her sons and their families: Donald Rober and his wife Wendy Powell and their children, Michael and Vanthy of Rutland Street; Gregory and Gail Rober and two children of Lynnfield, and Cliff Rober and Lisa Lodi and two children of Bedford. Edna was the wife of the late Donald L. Rober.

Edna gradulated from the Girl's Latin School in Boston, Mount Holyoke College and Babson College. She was a communications officer in the U.D. Marine Corps at the El Toro Marine Air Station in California from 1952 to 1954. She was a volunteer in many organizations including the Greater Boston Women's Bowling Association, UNICEF and the Heard Museum Guild in Phoenix. She was an enthusiastic and skilled needleworker, a dedicated genealogist and a lover of history, travel and photography.

Bill Sommer Resident of Carlisle for 26 years

Bill Sommer, formerly of Pine Brook Road, died on May 2 in Palm Bay, Florida. Bill and Rene and their five sons lived in Carlisle for 26 years (1969-1995).

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, at St. Irene Church. Burial will follow in the Green Cemetery. After the services there will be a luncheon downstairs at the church.

ENGAGEMENT Cynthia Liessner to wed Dennis Maher

Walter and Janet Liessner, formerly of 100 Bellows Hill Road, are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Cynthia Liessner, to Dennis Maher, son of the late Charles Edward Maher and Jaquilin Anne Maher, of Brockton, Massachusetts.

Cynthia is employed at Pegasystems in Cambridge. Dennis is employed at the Gillette Co. of South Boston where he is an engineer. Both are avid climbers. Their recent climb was up Mt. Rainier, where Dennis proposed to Cindy. The wedding is planned for next summer.


Emilie Jean Svenson

Deborah Ives Svenson and Michael Svenson of Mansfield are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Emilie Jean, on September 29. The proud grandparents are Natalie and Dave Ives of Heald Road in Carlisle. Great-grandmother is Estella I. Woodruff of Hamden, Connecticut.

ADOPTION Eric Vanthy Rober

Donald Rober, Wendy Powell and their son Michael of Rutland Street are pleased to announce the adoption of Eric Vanthy Rober on June 19, 2001 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Vanthy was born on February 18, 1998. Maternal grandparents are Loye and Joan Powell of Endwell, New York. Vanthy is their fifth grandchild. Paternal grandmother, Edna Rober, met Vanthy shortly after he arrived home.

Vanthy was adopted with the assistance of Dr. Nancy Hendrie, a pediatrician in Carlisle for many years.


Peter Flentov of Robbins Drive has been appointed vice president for sales and marketing at Product Genesis, a leading product development firm in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In his new role, Flentov is responsible for developing and managing branding programs, business development opportunities and executing the company's growth initiatives.

Flentov holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He is a published author on a variety of management topics in CFO Magazine and the Journal of Cost Management and holds a number of patents.
