Moms' night out
The Carlisle Parents Connection will be planning a series of "Moms' Nights Out" throughout the year. This gives moms a chance to sit back, relax, meet other moms in town and catch up with old friends. Our first Moms' Night Out will be on Wednesday, October 10. We will join up with the moms from the Red Balloon School between 7:30 and 10 p.m. in the bar area of the Outlook Restaurant at Nashoba Valley Ski Resort in Westford. No need to RSVP or be there right at 7:30, just show up when you can. It should be a fun evening. If you need directions, call Nashoba Valley at 1-978-692-3033.
Mark your calendar for upcoming Moms' Nights OutThursday, November 8, 7:30 p.m. at the Great Wall Restaurant in Bedford and Thursday, January 10, 7:30 p.m. at Paparazzi in Concord.
Call Polly Meyer at 1-978-318-9690 if you have any questions or restaurant recommendations.
New season of contra dancing
Second Friday contra dances in Union Hall at the First Religious Society will resume on Friday, October 12. Before the dance everyone is invited to a potluck supper that will begin at 6:30 p.m. The dance starts at 8 p.m. Sue Rosen will do the calling and Debby Knight, Bruce Rosen, Walter Lenk and friends will provide the music. A $5-a-person collection will be taken at intermission. Beginners and singles are welcome. Call Ellen Huber at 1-978-369-6678 if you have any questions.
Friday Night Live tonight
To kick off the new school year, the Carlisle Youth Commission (CYC) invites all students in grades six through eight to the first Friday Night Live (FNL) tonight, October 5, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Corey gym and exercise room.
Each middle school student, accompanied by a parent, must first attend a brief meeting beginning at 7:15 p.m. in the Corey Auditorium. The CYC and program coordinator will provide information about the Friday Night Live program and required permission forms will be available. No student will be admitted to FNL without a current, completed form.
Please note: some parents may have received conflicting information about the date of the pre-FNL meeting and Friday Night Live itself. Both are tonight. Students can enjoy music provided by our DJs, dance, play basketball, ping pong or just hang out with their friends. Pizza and soda will be sold for a small fee. The CYC will donate $2 of each $3 admission to the New York Firefighters 911 Disaster Relief Fund. Additional contributions to the relief fund will be accepted.
Friday Night Live is held on the first Friday of the month for Carlisle students in both private and public school. In addition to the supervision provided by the commission, all parents will be expected to chaperone at some time during the year.
The CYC welcomes all new sixth graders and returning middle schoolers back to FNL. Call Kathy Hassey at 1-978-287-4284 with any questions.
Elderly Housing meeting date changed
The meeting of the board of directors of the Carlisle Elderly Housing Association, originally scheduled for October 15 in the Sleeper Room, has been changed to Monday, October 22. Although this is not a public meeting, it will be open to the public from 7:30 to 8 p.m. in order to receive input regarding their decision to limit the use of the Sleeper Room.
Story time openings remain
There are openings in the Tuesday morning 10:30 a.m. story time for 3 to 4 1/2 year olds at the Gleason Library. This is an excellent way to introduce your child to a love of literature and reading. For information, call the children's department at the Gleason Library 1-978-369-4898.
