MCAS Testing schedule announced
The Massachusetts Compreshensive Assessment System (MCAS) testing schedule for 2001-2002 has been announced. Carlisle Public School principal Andy Goyer told the school committee on September 4 that the testing exercises have been spread out over all the grades so actually the interruption is less for individual grades. Director of student support services Dr. Linda Stapp emhasized that the tests are untimed for the children.
The Grade 3 Reading test will take place on the days between April 2-12, 2002. The English Language Arts Composition test for grade 4 and 7 will take place on April 9 with a May 9 make-up. All other tests: grade 5 history and science and technology, grade 6 mathematics and the grade 8 tests will take place during the period of May 13-24, 2002.
Superintendent Fox-Melanson stated that in Carlisle all other standardized testing has been phased out, although nationally there seems to be pressure to have more testing. CSC member Nock observed that the amount of time spent testing seems "excessive for the younger children."
