Eric Jensen will be missed

To the Editor:

I just wanted to express my thoughts on hearing this morning of Eric Jensen's death last weekend. I regret that I only knew him through our membership on ConsCom, but that limited contact left me with great respect for his independent intelligence. Eric was an invaluable part of ConsCom; he was not swayed by politics or irrelevant concerns. His refreshing honesty kept us all focused on the important issues. He was devoted to upholding the law and, above all, to protecting the environment and Carlisle's precious open land. He was charming and caring and full of life.

I know I'm not the only member of ConsCom who will miss keenly Eric's clear, eccentric take on the issues we struggle with. I'll miss his cheerful, quirky sense of humor. He was essential to us all. I'm glad I said as much to Eric while I still had the chance.

Double thanks for 911 response

To the Editor:

Not once, but twice last week, the Balles family was the thankful beneficiary of Carlisle's 911 emergency response effort. A small child choking on food and an adult lapsing unconscious a few hours after minor surgery were both truly frightening experiences. After eight uneventful years in Carlisle, we saw firsthand the dedication and professionalism of our police and fire departments.

All members of our household are well and we offer a heartfelt thanks to those who responded to our call and to those responsible for implementing the town's 911 system. Don't even think twice about calling 911 if someone is chokingseconds count!
