First tennis tournament is a big hit

The Carlisle Recreation Trust held the finals for its first benefit tennis tournament on Old Home Day. All of the matches were competitive and very entertaining, including the three-set mixed doubles semi-finals between Bob and Betsy Crist and Megan Feldt and Ben Nock, held the evening before Old Home Day. Women's doubles drew the biggest crowd with lots of "oohs" and "aahs" over action at the net and well-placed lobs.

The men's doubles match was most awe-inspiring as Rob Pease and his 11-year-old son Zander squashed their opponents. When asked how old he was by his opponent, Zander replied, "Technically I'm too young to play in this tournament but I think I'm doing okay!"

All finalists received a trophy and expressed a desire to play again next year. The tournament raised $300 towards a new scholarship to be awarded to a graduating Carlisle high school student in spring 2002.

Final tournament results are as follows:
· Men's Singles: Paul Murphy over Jack Chang: 6-1, 6-3

· Mixed Doubles: Megan Feldt and Ben Nock over Hans and Mary Lynne Bohn:

6-3,4-6,6-4

· Jr. Boys: Zander Pease over Sanjay Trehan: 6-3, 6-2

·
Women's Doubles: Sue Koning and Peg Opolski lost to Leslie Morgan and Paula von Kleydorff: 6-2, 7-5

· Men's Doubles: Rob and Zander Pease over Jack Chang and Bob Cummings: 6-3, 6-2.
