Teachers contract signed
With a great deal of fanfare from others at the Carlisle School Committee (CSC) meeting on April 3, CSC chair Paul Morrison and David Mayall, president of the Carlisle Teachers Association (CTA), signed a new contract effective July1, 2001 through June 30, 2003. Morrison said, "We think it is a fair contract and I commend all the people involved in it. It addresses all concerns. We feel good about it and hope you do too." Superintendent Fox Melanson agreed and said there was a collaborative atmosphere in the negotiating team of the teachers association and the school committee. Negotiation/bargaining teams for the CSC and the CTA have been meeting over the course of many weeks and the contract was ratified by the Carlisle Teachers Association on March 28.
"The contract signing is a testimony to the incredible partnership we have here between the school committee and the Carlisle Public School faculty," said CSC member David Dockterman. "The negotiations were collaborative and friendly." Mayall confirmed this feeling and said, "It was a positive experience for us too."
Morrison went on to say that this two year contract allows the teachers to go forward and try very innovatiave things, such as implementing a master teacher program and new ideas.
