Town Meeting to debate joining Preservation Act this Tuesday
A Special Town Meeting will convene this Tuesday, April 10, at 7:00 p.m., at the Corey Auditorium of the Carlisle Public School, to debate whether Carlisle should adopt the Community Preservation Act. The Act permits towns to place a surcharge of no more than three percent on real estate taxes, creating a fund for conservation, historic preservation and affordable housing. The state will provide matching funds.
The Warrant proposes a two percent tax surcharge, with exemptions for the first $100,000 of property value and for taxpayers who would qualify for low-income housing.
