Basketball teams invited to join in Sunday parade

A parade will be held in Concord center Sunday at noon to honor the Concord-Carlisle High School girls basketball team which won the Division 2 State Championship last Saturday at the Worcester Centrum. A ceremony will be held at the Middlesex Savings Bank on Main Street Square in Concord at 12:30 p.m. to commend the girls and their coaches, and to thank the many people of Concord and Carlisle who have come together this winter to support the team throughout its championship season.

Coaches and members of Concord and Carlisle youth basketball programs are invited to gather at the Hunt Gym in uniform at 11:30 a.m. At noon there will be a motorcade of the team from the high school to the Hunt Gym. There will then be a parade of the entire group to Monument Square along Stow and Main Streets and then back down Main Street to the bank. Also invited to participate in the parade are the CCHS junior varsity and freshman basketball teams.

The Patriots beat Oxford 59-34 on Saturday, March 17 at the Worcester Centrum capturing the first state championship in team history, capping an outstanding 26-0 season. Coach Dick DiMare was very fortunate to have a talented squad of players. Six-foot three-inch center Lisa Andrews led the pack, finishing with 26 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks. Katie Wayland helped the cause by contributing 16 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. However, DiMare was quick to state that all the players contributed throughout the season and it was "an entire team effort that won the game."
