Library installs new automated system
Horizon, a new automated system for reserving and borrowing books, has been operating at the Gleason Public Library since mid-December. With the new system have come changes for both patrons and staff. Most notable are:
a three-week loan period (an additional week from the former two-week loan),
two renewals of books, if no other patron is waiting,
the discontinuation of a grace period for returns,
a new on-line catalog called iPac.
To access the catalog go to www.mlvc.lib.ma.us and click on MVLC catalog. iPac allows patrons to see items they've checked out, renew eligible items on-line, and request (reserve) items. Pin numbers to access patron information were assigned by the computer as the last four digits of patrons' telephone numbers.
The Horizon software, manufactured by Epitech, Inc., is managed by the central site of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium, of which the Gleason Public Library is a member.
