New treasurer/tax collector appointed
The selectmen voted at their August 8 meeting to appoint Ann Vandal of Dracut to the newly combined position of treasurer/tax collector. Vandal replaces Nancy and William Koerner, who have retired after 33 years. Vandal will assume the position in early September.
Vandal had been recommended for the position by a unanimous decision of the interviewing committee. Possessing a bachelor's degree and relevant computer skills, Vandal has held positions as tax collector for the town of Westford and assistant treasurer/collector for the town of Danvers. Interim town administrator Madonna MacKenzie described Vandal's references as "very excellent." Selectman Carol Peters, who also participated in the interviews, said, "I'm very comfortable recommending her. She brings a knowledge base, and she will make sure things get done and get done right."
The position was advertised during the month of July; four of six candidates who responded were interviewed.
