Soccer GU12-1 beat Woburn and Wilmington
In an earlier game this season, the Girls Under 12-1 soccer team completed their sweep of the "W" towns (after wins against Wakefield and Waltham) beating Woburn 2-0 and previously undefeated Wilmington 2-1. C-C carried the play throughout the Woburn game with strong defense from Emily Cote, Sarabeth Henderson, and Damara "Boomer" Hawley stepping up time and again to turn threats into a C-C attack. Anna Parrott ranged the midfield and scored the first goal on a bomb from 20 yards, which fought its way through the keeper's hands and into the net. "I was trying to pass!" she explained modestly, after the game. (Sound of coach sighing.)
Sam O'Keefe and Ashley McManama were brilliant up front, repeatedly maintaining the attack and keeping Woburn in its end. Stevie Pearl got a nice assist on the second goal, taking a feed from Cote and sending it through the goalmouth to a waiting Julie Gray, who almost took out the netting with her shot.
Against Wilmington, C-C got up 2-0 within the first ten minutes while storming the opposing goal. Jamie "Kamikaze" Longo who, with Elise Lehotsky, terrorized Wilmington all day, netted the first goal after some great ball movement down the field. Ariel Morrison then stepped up and pounded in the game-winner from the eighteen in the middle of several defenders. Abbie Rolando's command of the field again came through in several sure-footed receptions which quickly turned into smart, change-of-field passes. Elizabeth Andrewes had the best tackles of the game, frustrating her often-bigger opponents. Sarah Franklin was relentless at stopper while Julie deJesus and Nora Bussolari were impenetrable down the left side, holding off the strong Wilmington side for the best win of the year.
