Board of health to offer well water testing
The board of health, with the assistance of the water quality subcommittee, is organizing a voluntary water-testing program for Carlisle homeowners on Saturday, June 10. The tests will cover volatile organic compounds including methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), sodium and nitrates. The cost per household is $94.
To participate the following information is required: name of owner/occupant, address and telephone number, and a check in the amount of $94, payable to Spectrum Analytical, Inc. The required information and fee must be received at the board of health office by June 2. The office is located on the second floor of Town Hall. The mailing address is Carlisle Board of Health, P.O. Box 827, Carlisle, MA 01741.
Owners will receive confirmation prior to the testing date. A consultant, with the assistance of town volunteers, will do the sampling, which will start at 9 a.m. and continue through the morning. Owners must be available to provide access, help locate an appropriate sampling port, and run the water to purge the lines. Specific times cannot be given, although a general time frame may be available once the final routes are established. Owners will receive the complete testing results in a few weeks.
The water testing results will not only provide helpful information to homeowners, but also afford an opportunity for the board of health and water quality subcommittee to evaluate current water quality and water resource conditions in Carlisle.
