Town election will be Tuesday
Two contests for elected positions and three ballot questions which impact taxpayers' bills are likely to draw voters to the polls on Tuesday, May 9 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Town Hall.
Three candidates, Sarah Brophy, Wayne Davis and Tom Raftery are vying for the one-year town moderator position which was mastered by Marshall "Pete" Simonds for over 30 years. There is an unusual contest for library trustee, between Brooke Cragan and Lisa Jensen Fellows, just as the Gleason staff is preparing to move to its new facility and will no doubt be presented with unique challenges. All other elective posts on the ballot show uncontested candidates.
Since Town Meeting defeated the Conant Land affordable housing proposal, only three of the four ballot questions are meaningful. These include a $222,487 operating budget override for the schools and library, a one-time capital expense of $20,000 for municipal water supply testing on the O'Rourke Farm and a debt exclusion for a roll-off truck to transport trash containers and compactor boxes which is expected to cost $100,000.
