Selectmen want delay on Conant Land restriction
The selectmen opted not to place an article on the Warrant for the May 2 Town Meeting which would impose a conservation restriction on the Conant Land. At their last meeting before they signed the Warrant, the board told members of the conservation commission and other interested citizens that, while there was significant support for preserving the Conant Land, they wanted to take the time to "do it right."
Chair Doug Stevenson suggested forming a subcommittee to put an article on the Warrant for the fall Town Meeting. This subcommittee would draft the article, delineate the area to be preserved, write the legal description and get review by town counsel. Selectman Vivian Chaput urged that the town's water needs not be overlooked in drafting the restriction.
Conservation commissioner Eric Jensen noted that the ConsCom was held up in drafting a restriction to some extent because of the housing authority's delay in identifying the specitic portion of the Conant Land needed for the affordable housing project.
There is an article on the May 2 Warrant seeking approval for the use of a portion of the Conant Land for affordable housing.
