Community pool at CCHS is a step closer to reality
A proposed community pool at CCHS will be sited in the area of the lowergym parking lot at CCHS. In addition to the pool, the two-story buildingis designed to have three community rooms for various activities for middleand high school students.
Swim facility committee members Pete Funkhouser and Tim Atkins appearedbefore the RSC to show an updated drawing of the pool site andlocation of an estimated 350 additional parking spaces at the school. Theschool has long had a shortage of parking. The plans shownew parking near the pool, along the right of the driveway and an expansionof the current student parking lot.
The RSC gave the pool committee their support for the community pool onCCHS land. "It's a good deal," said member Cindy Nock of the long-awaited facility. "It will fulfill a tremendous need." Parent Karen Balicki added, "If we don't move on this now, we'll have nothingour families can see."
The community pool has been in the planning stages for the last few years.A donor offered funding for construction of the pool. However, the swim facility committee estimated it needs to raise an additional $3million to complete the project. Ongoing maintenance of the pool will bepaid for by an endowment and from user fees. The committeewill now take the updated project to the Concord Board of Selectman for approval.
