First-year runners make a difference on Girls Cross-Country

The 1999-2000 season of the Concord-Carlisle Girls Cross-Country team has come to an end. The team, made up mainly of first-year runners, proved to all competitors exactly what they were made of. A 3—5 record during the season certainly gave the girls spirit and strength. In practice and in meets the girls showed determination and desire to excel. The three girls from Carlisle: Melissa Hinton, Katrina Rogers and Lizzie Thomas, were welcomed openly to the team. Melissa unfortunately had a season of injury and was unable to compete, but cheered her team on, every chance she had. Katrina, who is new not only to the team but to the school, settled in and pushed to gain her place on the team. Lizzie, a senior, blessed the team with her presence. She brought fun and laughter to the group, with her ideas and comments. The girls were saddened by the ending of the season, but were pleased to send sophomore and MVP Jessica Minty to the state meet. Next year the rest of the top seven runners will be joining her there.
