Middle School softball wins league championship

The Carlisle Middle School Softball Team won the league championship and finished up with a record of 13-1. Sixth- grader Erin Daly and eighth-grader Kaitlin Mattison did most of the work on the mound for the Huskies. They had a combined total of 75 strikeouts and both greatly contributed to the Carlisle offense. Eighth-grader Jazen Jacobellis was both an offensive and defensive standout. She led the team with 12 home runs on the season and played most of the games behind the plate. Sam O'Keefe was a key defensive player, throwing out the majority of runners attempting to steal second base.

Meghan Kilian was our lead-off hitter. She was consistent both offensively and defensively at the hot corner third-base position. Jen Trebino, Adrienne Tambone, Joslyn Tarr, Amanda Rao, and Marilee Higgins all split playing time in the outfield. Marilee also split time at second base with Mary Snell and Kristen Bergstrom. They all came up with some key defensive plays when we needed them. Their bats also came around at the crucial times to help out the Husky offensive.

Emily Rolando, Kim Anderson and Jennie Woodward were great utility players. They all had great attitudes and always gave 110 percent no matter what position they were asked to play. Eva Jellison contributed both offensively and defensively to the team. She will become a key player for the Huskies in the next couple of years.

One of the highlights of our season was a come-from-behind win against Lancaster. Lancaster was a solid defensive team. Going into the seventh inning, Carlisle was up 6-1. Lancaster came back and scored eight runs in the top of the seventh, but Carlisle never gave up. The support and the encouragement for each other were incredible. The Huskies came up with four runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh led by Kaitlin Mattison, to top Lancaster, 10-9.

We play each team twice during the season. Our only loss came midway through the season, to Bolton, 12-11. The biggest highlight of the season was beating Bolton 19-2 in the last game of the season to win the league championship. Erin Daly pitched a complete game and struck out ten batters to shut down the Bolton offense. Everyone contributed equally in that game to defeat our rival.

All of the eighth graders were key players on the team and are going to be missed next year. They were good leaders both on and off the field. The girls earned the championship and should feel proud of themselves for their accomplishments. They spent many hours practicing and worked hard.

Congratulations on a successful season.
