Complaint filed against school
On June 22, Roger Murphy of the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights (OCR) confirmed that a complaint was filed against the Carlisle Public School on April 28, 1999. According to Murphy, the complaint alleges that "the district failed to take appropriate action when sexual harassment was reported, and there is also a retaliation issue." Murphy said the office is investigating the case and it generally takes about 135 days from the time the case is filed, at which time the office will issue a letter and a resolution agreement, if there is one.
According to a statement released by Superintendent Davida Fox-Melanson, the school's response as reviewed with their attorney is as follows: "The School District denies the allegations because the School District has taken appropriate action in the best interest of the child in question as well as all children in the Carlisle Public Schools. The Carlisle Public Schools have not retaliated against anyone in the case pending before OCR."
