Contract signed for Gleason renovation
On Friday, June 11, the contract for the Gleason Public Library renovation and addition project was signed. Ken Bibber, vice-president of Groom Construction in Swampscott, joined chair of the board of selectmen Douglas Stevenson, town accountant Sarah Andreassen, town administrator David DeManche, and the trustees of the library Teresa Kvietkauskas, Mary Cheever and Rosalie Johnson at the Town Hall for the signing.
Since the library closed the doors of the Gleason Building to move to 872 Westford Street at the Carlisle Institute, an asbestos abatement project has been completed, the Carlisle Historical Society collection has been moved to storage, and some preliminary planning for demolition and preparation of the site has been done.
Groom Construction plans to take over the site on Monday, June 21, and demolition of the current addition is tentatively scheduled to take place in the next two weeks.
Construction, originally expected to begin in May, has been delayed due to ongoing negotiations with an electrical contractor. The trustees are still optimistic that the new facility will be open to the public in May 2000.
