Girls U14 soccer take on Billerica

The Concord-Carlisle Patriots GU-14 Div. 1 team hosted the Billerica GUI4-1 team in a make-up game on Tuesday, May 11, and traveled to Billerica for a second game on Saturday.

The first game had a goal by Billerica in the third minute. The Patriots were able to even the score when Susie Martin drove home a penalty kick later in the first half. Despite good scoring opportunities by both teams during the rest of the game, the keepers for both teams made the necessary saves to keep the score tied. Kylie Duff, Hannah Brady, Dana Tsakos and Taylor Parrott played excellent defense. Patriots goalie, Becca Perry, made ten saves, including two on corner kicks. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.

In the second game, Billerica again scored first, but three minutes later Susie Martin scored goal on another penalty kick, to tie the game. At the thirty-four- minute mark of the first period, Perry sent a hard drive up the center of the field over, the heads of the Billerica defenders. Rachel Williams sprinted between the defenders, dribbled the ball up the field on a clean breakaway and drove the ball into the right side of the goal to put Concord ahead for the first time in the two games. Ellen Berndtson, Becca Cole and Whitney Sharp all played well, keeping the ball in the Billerica end for much of the second half. In the closing minute of the game, Parrott and Perry made successive headers to clear the ball out of the Patriot's goal area, on a Billerica corner kick. Goalie, Emily Rolando, made nine saves to preserve the 2-1 victory for the Patriots. The Patriots are now 3-2-2 and in third place in their division for the spring season.
