Girls U12-2 soccer team ties Wilmington, 2-2

The GU12-2 team stormed back from a 2-0 halftime deficit to tie a previously unbeaten Wilmington team whose goal differential to date had been 22 to 1. Wilmington was as powerful as advertised, taking it to the home team and scoring within the first five minutes. C-C largely held its own for the rest of the half, which was highlighted by a Nora Bussolari head-ball past a defender into the left corner which she followed with a sweet cross into the box. In the second half, the tide turned more decisively in favor of C-C with Lizzie Butler making several runs up left wing and Libby Stout muscling balls through traffic to make feeding crosses. Sarah Takvorian and Ariel Morrison were particularly outstanding on defense and were instrumental in keeping the ball in the offensive end. In the middle of Wilmington box, it was Hannah Tarolli who took the ball out of the air with her foot, brought it down deftly, and fired it past the keeper for the goal that shocked Wilmington. Now the fired up C-C swarmed. Halfbacks Samantha Smith and Abbie Rolando launched some pretty feeding passes and a second score became increasingly inevitable. Bussolari had the honors with a decisive southpaw strike past the increasingly frustrated keeper. Wilmington launched a furious rally at the end to recapture the lead, but Anna Parrott was immense in goal as usual and fended off all threats.
