Girls U14-I soccer win again

The Concord-Carlisle Patriots GU-14 Div. I team hosted a good Somerville Div. I team on a beautiful spring morning at Cushing Field on Saturday.

The first half of the match opened with Somerville pushing the ball into the Concord-Carlisle end and the Patriots were a bit slow to respond. Near the middle of the period, the momentum shifted as the home team started to counter the Somerville challenges. At the twenty minute mark, Taylor Parrott made a beautiful pass from her left forward position to a waiting Kelly Robb who drove the ball home for the first goal of the game. Only three minutes later, Hannah Brady drove a long pass up the middle of the field to Kim Bauer who shot a picture-perfect ball into the upper left hand corner of the goal. Only minutes later, however, Somerville scored on its own crossing pass to a waiting forward who drove in the visitor's first goal.

The second half started with Somerville keeping up the pressure in the Patriot's end. At the five minute mark, Somerville tied the game with a good shot into the left side of the goal. Concord-Carlisle regained the momentum when Rachel Williams took a nice lead pass from Susie Martin and outran the Somerville defense. When the Somerville goalie committed herself, Williams moved to her right and made a hard shot into lower right hand corner of the goal. During most of the rest of the period, the teams played even with Patriots Kylie Duff, Becca Perry and Catilin Fay all hustling after any ball that came close to them. Emily Rolando made eight saves, several on close in shots and Hannah Brady played a very strong game. The Patriots scored the final goal of the game when Parrott fed a beautiful forward pass to Bauer who scored her second goal of the game.

The Patriots are now 2-1-1 for the season.
