Carlisle Band awarded gold medal
Carlisle's Middle School Senior Band was awarded the gold medal for the twelfth consecutive year at the annual Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association Concert Festival at Lexington High School on Sunday, March 28.
The ensemble, comprised of 82 students in grades 5-8, once again performed a program of uncompromising difficulty for four regionally and nationally recognized adjudicators. The band's clinician, Dr. Harry Owens (University of North Carolina), worked with the students after their performance and offered them high praise for their efforts, placing them, in his opinion, among the top 2-3 percent of middle school bands in the country. In addition, he was able to indicate some specific areas of improvement which would help the students attain even higher levels of proficiency.
An overflow crowd of Carlisle parents and well-wishers (causing one adjudicator to ask whether there were any people in Carlisle who weren't there!) contributed to the positive atmosphere of the day. Congratulations to all 82 students!
Tom O'Halloran is the Carlisle School band director.
