Carlisle Band wows music educators
Carlisle's Senior Band was the only middle school band in Massachusetts to be invited to perform at the Massachusetts Music Educators Association All-State Conference on March 10-13. This annual gathering of music educators from across the state reserves three hours of their four-day conference for concert appearances by selected ensembles at all levels, from elementary to college.
The Senior Band, numbering 82 students in grades 5-8, treated educators and supportive parents and administrators to a half-hour program of difficult classical (e.g. the definitive transcription of Frescobaldi's Toccata) and contemporary (e.g. Sun Dance by Frank Ticheli) works. The standing-room-only audience was highly appreciative of the students' efforts.
Now, students are anticipating their appearance at the state concert rating festival, sponsored by the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association, to be held on Sunday, March 28 at Lexington High School.
Tom O'Halloran is the Carlisle School Band director.
