White property dropped from Special Town Meeting

"Given the budget situation, I can't recommend the purchase by the town of the entire White property for its appraised value," said selectman Vivian Chaput on March 9, and the rest of the selectmen agreed. The town had received an independent appraisal of the property of $340,000. Chaput also reported that the library trustees, who had until recently been urging the town to consider purchase of the White property because of its prime location adjacent to the library, had changed their mind about wanting to put the purchase of the property on the Warrant. Accordingly, townspeople will have only one article to consider at the Special Town Meeting on April 7whether to renovate the Gleason Public Library for "a sum of money." The actual sum will not be known until construction bids close on March 26.
