Sixth graders end season with a win
The Concord-Carlisle sixth-grade traveling basketball team finished the 98-99 season Saturday on a winning note, downing Everett at home by a score of 28 to 9. The C-C girls demonstrated why they are an effective fast-break team, as they consistently pushed the ball up the court and got easy baskets before Everett could set their defense.
The game started slowly, with each team testing the other. As has often been the case this season, Amy Coles and Allie Robbins bottled up the middle and hauled down the defensive rebounds that got C-C's fast break started. They also combined for five points, including three in the first quarter. Eva Jellison and Courtney Haley played great team defense, as Everett was held to just two points in the first half. Sam O'Keefe added the offense punch, directing the running game and scoring four points in the second quarter.
Kirsten Kester and Sarah Churchill led the charge in the second half. Kirsten helped keep the Everett guards in check while scoring four points. Sarah celebrated her birthday with three second-half buckets. Julie Ellenberger contributed sharp passing and led all scorers with nine points.
