A good time to be thankful

To the Editor:

In the middle of the night when I hear the sleet rattling against my window or see the bright moonlight flooding in, I think of the early hours, the treacherous driving and the faithfulness of our newspaper deliverer, who keeps putting our morning news on the spot in front of the house every day.

His name is James Quigley, 1461 Pawtucket Blvd, Lowell. MA 01854.

If you haven't sent him a year-end gift to thank him, you might consider doing so. It is his job, it's true, but he does it well, with very few absences, at an uncomfortable hour and in some wild weather conditions.

Why the census is important

To the Editor:

Some residents may not understand why census data is so important to our town. Aside from the most obvious use of projecting school enrollment, the funds the town receives from the state such as highway funds, state aid and library aid are all based on the census. When people fail to return the census or neglect to account for all the residents of their home, our population is understated and hence we don't receive all the funds we are due. I urge everyone to take a few minutes and return their census forms.
