Carlisle students chosen for State House tech show
submitted by David Mayall
A team of four second-grade students represented Carlisle at the Kids and Technology '98 exhibition on Monday, May 18, at the State House in Boston. The objective of the program was to demonstrate for Senator Susan Fargo, Representative Carol Cleven and other interested legislators how technology is being utilized in education today. This event celebrated the changes that are taking place in Carlisle's classrooms.
The team of Lois Dennison, Lauren LaLiberté, Brad Mattison and Jarrett Piette, along with second-grade teacher Heather Coughlin and technology specialist David Mayall, demonstrated with slide shows about the solar system, bats and friends. They also brought spring poems, graphs and articles from their class newsletter. The title of their presentation was "What Can Second Graders Do with Computers?"
Kids and Technology '98 is an annual event sponsored by MassCUE, Massachusetts Computer Using Educators. Applications were sent out to all schools in the state and then teams were selected to provide a wide range of subjects and grade-level applications for the state officials to observe.
David Mayall is the Carlisle School's technical integration specialist.
