Building Commissioner John Luther provided construction update on the Benfield Farms affordable housing project when he spoke to the Zoning Board of Appeals on September 30. Luther noted that the roof had been put on the three-story section and that the exterior of the two-story section would be completed soon—except for the silo. (The apartment building is designed to resemble a farmhouse with attached barn.) He explained that the leaching field was almost complete and the well was producing 46 gallons of water per minute.

Landscaping on the property is to begin the third week of October, though the lawn will not be seeded until later.

Luther said that a model apartment is to be completed in the next couple of weeks, and that the building is expected to be ready for occupancy sometime in January. “I’m very pleased with the operation so far,” said Luther. ∆
